I have known Dr. Douglas K. right from his boyhood. Being close to his family, including his father, mother, and sister, for the last 40 years at least, I have had the opportunity to study him in terms of his talents, strengths, and priorities in life. As all those who know him are well aware, he is a highly talented actor, scriptwriter, and artist in every sense. For some reason or other, as it happens with many who are bestowed with real talents, he also couldn’t come up and be in the limelight, probably because he didn’t run after patrons. But he organized himself to display his talents and prove his mettle in smaller communities or groups where he had access. He is still at it in his own style.
Another notable trait in his character is his philanthropic mind. I remember he had started helping polio-affected students and others in the LMS Polio Home, Thiruvananthapuram. And soon, the canvas was widened to accommodate tens and hundreds of physically and mentally challenged children, youth, and elders. It was in this midst that he came up with a Charitable Trust in memory of his late father, EM Kunjukunju (he was ‘Appuchayan’ to us), who himself was a great philanthropist.
Now, every year, Dr. Douglas somehow manages to raise funds and other resources to help a sizable number of impaired brethren. I have always felt that this particular activity further enhances the spirit of humaneness in him that eventually makes him a good person dearer to God and his fellow beings.
He is also a well-known Reiki Master, effective psychologist, mind-power trainer, and mentor.
I wish Dr. Douglas all the best and Godspeed in all his endeavors.
